EU AI Act Readiness for Financial Services — 2026 Briefing

A source-based framework for financial-services AI inventories, legal roles and applicable duties, with a bounded research and drafting example.

Financial-services teams should review each AI system by intended purpose and legal role, rather than classify an entire firm or vendor as high-risk. This briefing is a review framework, not a confirmed interpretation of current national supervisory practice.

Review the system and the applicable duties

Maintain an inventory of uses, responsible owners, suppliers, affected people and processing. Review Article 6, Annex III and the exceptions in the AI Act. Annex III includes specified uses concerning creditworthiness and life or health insurance; it does not make every financial-services model high-risk.

Check whether the firm is a provider, deployer or another actor. Article 27 FRIAs apply to specified deployers. Annex IV documentation relates to the applicable provider obligations, not a universal requirement for every deployer. Review Article 50 for transparency duties where relevant.

DORA can also apply to an in-scope financial entity’s ICT arrangements. Keep the legal tests and reporting thresholds distinct even when the same governance record supports both reviews. Check current law and official authority notices for application dates, designated authorities and procedures.

Illustrative product example: an AI governance briefing

Evaluate Lexis+ AI for a source-linked research answer in the available collection, and Lexis Create for preparing a reviewed internal document within Microsoft 365. Ask explicitly whether the exact AI Act source is available in the proposed subscription. Neither example proves automated model classification, a FRIA workspace, monitoring or a regulator-ready technical file.
