Selecting a Legal AI Assistant for In-House Teams

An in-house legal AI evaluation using verified product categories, confidentiality questions, local-coverage checks and a reviewed drafting example.

An in-house legal AI evaluation should start with one defined task, the required jurisdiction and the information the team is allowed to share. Faster generation is useful only if source checking, corrections and confidentiality controls make the complete workflow acceptable.

Evaluate the proposed edition and contract

Test a research answer, a document summary and a first draft using public or anonymised material. Check every legal citation and distinguish the licensed collection from uploaded documents and external sources.

Ask for security documentation, processing locations, subprocessors, retention, training-use terms and export arrangements. GDPR does not justify assuming that every product must or does process all data only in the EU. Have procurement and privacy advisers assess the actual contractual and transfer arrangements.

Confirm Word and document-management integrations in the exact edition. Ask for a named Cyprus, Greek or Maltese source where needed; an official UK or US page does not prove local-law coverage. Record limitations instead of treating a plausible answer as evidence that local law is included.

Illustrative product example: research to a first draft

Evaluate Lexis+ AI for a cited research response and summary, then Lexis Create for drafting in Microsoft 365 where supported. Review the source, edits and total time. This is an evaluation scenario, not a client success story or a guarantee of local-source access, security certification or time savings.
