Regulatory Compliance Software in 2026: A Buyer's Guide for Mid-Market Firms

A practical shortlist for legal research, drafting, due diligence and operational compliance tools, with a product-specific supplier example and questions to verify coverage.

Buying regulatory compliance software starts with separating three needs: understanding the law, researching counterparties, and operating controls. A legal research subscription is not automatically a GRC system. For firms in Cyprus, Greece and Malta, evaluate the exact jurisdiction, content collection and workflow rather than a broad claim of EU coverage.

Build a functional shortlist

  1. Research: can reviewers open the legislation, cases or commentary behind an answer, and identify the applicable version?
  2. Operational compliance: demonstrate obligation ownership, control mapping, evidence collection, approvals and reporting separately. These are requirements to assess, not confirmed EuroLexAI product features.
  3. Due diligence: test person and company research, dataset coverage, negative-news relevance and the review process.
  4. Integration: confirm the specific Microsoft 365, document-management or other integration offered in the proposed edition.
  5. Procurement: request security documentation, processing locations, confidentiality terms, an itemised proposal and export arrangements. EU data residency, certifications and implementation times must be verified, not assumed.

Score each function as demonstrated, unavailable or pending confirmation. A source-cited answer does not prove that a platform maintains a DORA register or submits an incident report.

Illustrative product evaluation: one supplier, three separate tasks

A compliance team evaluating an ICT supplier could test Lexis+ AI on a research question within its licensed legal collection, then inspect the linked authorities. Lexis Diligence can be evaluated for company and negative-news research. Lexis Create can be evaluated for document drafting within Microsoft 365. Record which edition and sources were actually shown. The team still needs its own control owners, approved contracts, incident processes and evidence repository; these products should not be presented as one verified all-in-one compliance engine.
